Jammu, July 13:

A large-scale plantation drive was organised at the cremation ground in Jasrota village by the Samooh Jatt Biradari Jasrota in collaboration with the Wildlife Protection Department and the JK Blood Donors and Welfare Society.

DFO Kathua Vijay Kumar, former DDC Nagri Er. Sandeep Majotra and SHO Rajbagh Sushil Sharma were among the prominent guests present on the occasion. The guests planted saplings and appreciated the initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, they said that protecting the environment is not only the responsibility of the government but also a moral duty of every citizen. They encouraged people to actively participate in plantation and environmental awareness initiatives.

Several prominent residents, senior citizens, youth and social workers from the village also participated in the programme. As part of the initiative, participants planted saplings in the memory of their ancestors and departed family members, paying a unique and meaningful tribute to them.

The initiative added an emotional and inspiring dimension to the plantation drive by connecting environmental conservation with the remembrance of loved ones.

During the programme, the Samooh Jatt Biradari Jasrota also announced an important social initiative. The organisation resolved that following every cremation at the cremation ground, a sapling would be planted in memory of the deceased on the day their ashes are collected.

The initiative aims to preserve the memories of departed loved ones in the form of greenery while contributing to environmental protection and the development of a greener community.

The organisers said that similar public welfare and environmental initiatives would continue in the future to promote the beautification, cleanliness and green development of the Jasrota cremation ground.
