Jammu, July 11:
A delegation of the BJP OBC Morcha visited cloudburst-affected areas of Thathri in Doda district and participated in relief and civil restoration activities while assessing the damage caused by the recent natural calamity.
The delegation was led by BJP OBC Morcha Doda District President Munir Sheikh and included Akther Sheikh, Munir Khan, Manan Bhat and Ghulam Hussain. The team visited several villages in Mandal Thathri, falling under the 52-Doda Assembly Constituency, and interacted with local residents to understand their concerns and assess the extent of the damage.
According to the Morcha, the cloudburst caused extensive damage to residential houses, agricultural land, roads and other public infrastructure, resulting in significant hardship for residents. During the visit, Morcha workers participated in civil restoration work and extended assistance to affected families.
Speaking during the visit, Munir Sheikh said that residents of the affected areas had suffered major losses and were awaiting timely relief, compensation and rehabilitation.
He alleged that the National Conference-led government had failed to provide adequate assistance despite the seriousness of the situation.
The BJP OBC Morcha office bearers also accused the NC government and local MLA Mehraj Malik of failing to adequately address the urgent concerns of the affected residents. They alleged that the government had not ensured timely relief, restoration of damaged infrastructure or adequate compensation for families impacted by the cloudburst.
Meanwhile, BJP OBC Morcha Jammu and Kashmir UT President Braham Jyot Satti criticised what he described as the National Conference government’s “insensitive and negligent approach” towards the affected families.
Satti said that governments have a responsibility to respond swiftly during natural disasters by providing immediate relief, rehabilitation and continued support to affected communities.
He alleged that the present government had failed to fulfil this responsibility, leaving several affected families disappointed and awaiting assistance.
Satti also criticised MLA Mehraj Malik, alleging that the local representative had failed to effectively raise the concerns of cloudburst-affected residents and ensure immediate assistance during a difficult period.
The BJP OBC Morcha urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the losses and provide adequate compensation to all affected families.
The Morcha also demanded the restoration of damaged roads, essential public services and other infrastructure on a war footing. It further urged the administration to ensure that no affected household is left without relief or rehabilitation assistance.
Reiterating the organisation’s support for the affected residents, the BJP OBC Morcha said it would continue to stand with the people of Doda and raise their concerns until every affected family receives relief, compensation and proper rehabilitation.
