Jammu, July 7:
Additional Registrar General (ARGI), Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India, Sunil Kumar, on Tuesday congratulated the Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, for successfully completing Phase-I (House Listing Operations) of Census 2027.
During his maiden visit to the Directorate’s Jammu office, Sunil Kumar was received by Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Amit Sharma. A detailed presentation was made on the successful completion of the month-long House Listing Operations, key administrative initiatives and the roadmap for the upcoming phases of Census 2027. A documentary highlighting the digital execution of the exercise across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh was also screened.
The Additional Registrar General appreciated the Directorate for completing the House Listing Operations through 100 per cent digital data collection despite the challenging geographical conditions of both Union Territories. He praised the team’s planning, field coordination, use of technology and continuous monitoring, describing the documentary as a reflection of the professionalism and dedication of the Census teams.
During the visit, Amit Sharma also conducted a pipping ceremony for his Personal Security Officer, Kashmir Singh, who was recently promoted to the rank of Head Constable, in the presence of senior officers.
Officials also briefed the Additional Registrar General on digital innovations, training of Census staff, media outreach, field monitoring and preparations for the next phase of Census 2027. He appreciated the Directorate’s institutional initiatives, including strengthening infrastructure in Jammu and Srinagar, establishing an office in Ladakh and enhancing manpower.
Sunil Kumar assured the Directorate of full support from the Office of the Registrar General in addressing administrative, financial, infrastructural and manpower-related requirements to ensure the smooth implementation of the remaining phases of Census 2027.
He expressed confidence in the Directorate’s preparedness and commended the enthusiasm, teamwork and professionalism displayed by the officers and staff during the successful completion of the House Listing Operations.
