KATRA, DEC 09: The Board of Cultural Activities (BCA) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Jammu chapter, hosted a vibrant Youth Festival focusing on the critical theme of “Drug Abuse Among Youth of Jammu and Kashmir” on  Monday.

As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the event commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by esteemed guests, including Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Pragati Kumar as the Chief Guest, Dr Rakesh Thusoo, President of the BCA, and Dr Kamini Pathania, Vice President of the BCA. Dr Kamini Pathania welcomed attendees with an inspiring address, underlining the importance of awareness regarding drug abuse. Prof Kumar followed with a thought-provoking speech, urging the youth to play a pivotal role in tackling this societal challenge.

The ceremony also featured captivating classical and cultural performances by SMVDU’s talented students, setting an engaging tone for the festival. The afternoon segment included inter-school competitions such as Inklet, a creative writing contest showcasing compelling narratives, and the Battle of Voices, which spotlighted exceptional singing talents. A mesmerizing dance competition further explored human emotions through artistic expression.

The cultural evening brought electrifying performances to the stage. Nishu Pandita and Group enchanted the audience with the Kashmiri folk dance Roshuk, while Ram Dutta and Group delivered an emotional rendition of the traditional art form Gitro, both sponsored by JKAACL. The grand finale featured a high-energy performance by the renowned Sajan Musical Group, sponsored by ICCR, leaving the audience enthralled.

Dr Rajesh Kumar and Reena Slathia were among the dignitaries who lauded the event’s organizers for their efforts. The festival not only celebrated Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural richness but also provided a platform for meaningful dialogue about the dangers of drug abuse.

BCA, SMVDU, extended its gratitude to ICCR, JKAACL Secretary Harvinder Kour, JKAS, and Anil Tickoo for their sponsorship and timely support in bringing folk dance and music teams to the event.
