JAMMU, FEB 28: In response to recent snowfall and forecasts of continued inclement weather, the Jammu and Kashmir government has extended winter vacations for all schools in the Kashmir Valley and the winter zones of Jammu Division until March 6, 2025. Consequently, schools are now scheduled to reopen on March 7, 2025.
The decision was announced by Minister for School Education, Sakina Itoo, following a meeting held this morning. The extension comes after reports from Deputy Commissioners regarding the current weather conditions and predictions from the Meteorological Department indicating more snowfall in the coming days.
Originally, schools were set to resume on March 1, 2025, after the winter break. However, due to the prevailing severe cold wave and recent weather developments, the government had previously extended the holidays until February 28, 2025. With the latest extension, educational institutions will remain closed for an additional week to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
