Islamabad, Feb 6:
A devastating explosion ripped through a mosque in the Shehzad Town area of Pakistan’s capital city on Friday afternoon, leaving at least 10 people dead and more than 90 others injured.
The blast occurred during Friday prayers, a time when the mosque was most crowded with worshippers. Security officials and rescue teams rushed to the scene as a cloud of smoke and panic enveloped the residential outskirts of the capital.
Emergency Response & “State of Emergency”
Immediately following the explosion, the Islamabad Police and district administration cordoned off the area. A state of emergency has been declared across all major medical facilities in the city to prioritize the influx of victims.
-
Hospitals on Alert: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic Hospital have been placed on high alert, with additional surgical teams called in to handle the critically wounded.
-
Rescue Operation: Ambulances from various agencies, including Edhi and Rescue 1122, were seen transporting the injured, many of whom are reported to be in critical condition.
Details of the Attack
The explosion targeted a mosque located in the Tarlai area of Shehzad Town. While the nature of the blast (whether a suicide bombing or a planted device) is still being verified by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), early reports suggest a powerful impact that caused structural damage to the building.

Security Grid and Investigation
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the incident has sent shockwaves through the capital, leading to a massive increase in security checkpoints across Islamabad.
“The area has been completely sealed, and forensic teams are collecting evidence from the site to determine the nature of the explosives used. We will deal with those responsible with an iron hand,” a senior police official stated at the scene.
Interior Ministry officials are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, and a high-level security meeting is expected to be chaired by the Prime Minister later this evening to review the counter-terrorism strategy in the federal capital.
