Doda, September 10: The Jammu Kashmir Lamberdars and Chowkidars Union (JKLCU) on Thursday condemned the alleged assault on Lamberdar Abdul Hamid, son of Feroz Din and resident of Gurmul, Dhandhal, in Kastigarh tehsil of Doda district, while he was reportedly performing official verification-related duties.
According to preliminary information shared by the Union, Abdul Hamid was carrying out verification work in Village Gurmul when he was allegedly assaulted by Naveed Ahmed, son of Mohd Sharif, a resident of the same village.
JKLCU Raises Matter with DC Doda
On September 9, JKLCU District Cashier Doda, Lamberdar Ramesh Chib, along with injured Lamberdar Abdul Hamid and other representatives, met Deputy Commissioner Doda Krishan Lal and apprised him of the incident.
The delegation requested the administration to ensure appropriate action and provide protection to the Lamberdar, who was allegedly attacked while carrying out his assigned duties.
The Deputy Commissioner subsequently directed the concerned SHO and police authorities to verify the facts and take appropriate action strictly in accordance with law.
FIR Lodged, Union Appreciates Police
Following the intervention of the administration, Police Post Kastigarh reportedly lodged an FIR against Naveed Ahmed and initiated further action as per law.
JKLCU Chairman Mukesh Parihar also spoke over the phone with the In-charge Police Post Kastigarh regarding the matter.
The Union expressed gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Doda Krishan Lal and the Police Department for taking the complaint seriously and responding promptly to its representation.
JKLCU said it hopes the investigation will be conducted fairly, impartially and expeditiously, with appropriate legal action following if the allegations are established.
Ramesh Chib Also Alleges Intimidation
The Union also took note of a statement by District Cashier Doda Lamberdar Ramesh Chib, who alleged that while he was travelling towards his home, some persons stopped him and attempted to abuse and intimidate him.
JKLCU urged the administration and police authorities to verify the allegations and take appropriate action strictly according to law.
The Union said Lamberdars and Chowkidars are grassroots-level public functionaries who assist the administration in carrying out various duties in villages.
JKLCU reiterated its support for Abdul Hamid and all Lamberdars and Chowkidars performing their duties at the grassroots level, while appealing to its members to remain peaceful, disciplined and united and to have faith in the law and investigation process.
