MENDHAR, MAR 24: Security forces on Sunday uncovered a major terrorist hideout in a remote forested area of Poonch district, leading to the seizure of a large cache of arms and explosives, officials said.
The operation was conducted jointly by the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police in Sarabara near Sangla Top. The day-long search led to the recovery of three AK assault rifles, 23 magazines, 922 rounds of ammunition, seven grenades, and four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Additionally, security forces found a watch-type timer mechanism, 19 detonators, three meters of cortex, one four-inch cylinder, a combat dress, 10 centimeters of safety fuse, and 200 grams of heroin.
Explosives, including IEDs, grenades, detonators, the timer device, cortex, and safety fuse, were later destroyed on the spot by the Bomb Disposal Squad, ensuring no further threat in the area, officials said.
However, no arrests were made during the operation. Security forces have intensified searches in the region to trace any individuals linked to the hideout.
