NEW DELHI, FEB 09: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss various issues concerning the Union Territory, with a special focus on security, political developments, and law and order.
During the meeting, Sharma emphasized the need to strengthen and expand Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Village Defence Guards (VDGs), citing their vital role in combating terrorism. He highlighted recent terror incidents, including the attack on an ex-serviceman’s family in Kulgam, and urged the government to ensure full rehabilitation and educational support for the victims’ families.
The Home Minister assured every possible support to address the concerns raised by Sharma. He also pledged to hold a meeting with all BJP MLAs from Jammu and Kashmir, a move expected to strengthen the party’s presence in the region and address lawmakers’ concerns.
Discussions also covered the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, the current political landscape, and law-and-order issues, particularly in Jammu district. As Leader of Opposition, Sharma’s meeting with Shah is seen as a significant step towards addressing key challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
