KATRA, AUGUST 27: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with the J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council (JKSTIC), Udhampur, on Tuesday organized a one-day awareness program titled “Empowering Climate Action: Strategies for a Sustainable Future” at its School of Energy Management. The event aimed to equip participants with knowledge, tools, and strategies to drive meaningful climate action while promoting sustainability.
The awareness program brought together experts from various fields to discuss climate action strategies, focusing on ways to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change. The event included keynote addresses, presentations, and interactive sessions, providing a platform for students and professionals to explore innovative approaches for a sustainable future.
In his keynote address, Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, emphasized the institution’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation. He highlighted the importance of such programs in broadening participants’ understanding of sustainable development strategies. “By raising awareness, we can foster a collective effort to pursue sustainable growth and empower climate action for a better future,” Prof. Kumar stated.

Shruti Khanna, District Coordinator of JKSTIC, Udhampur, stressed the need to encourage young minds to become role models in climate change mitigation. She highlighted the event’s objective to promote environmental consciousness among students and professionals alike.
Prof. Deepak Pathania, Professor at the Department of Environment Sciences, Central University of Jammu, addressed waste management strategies, emphasizing the potential of converting waste into energy. He called on the younger generation to take a proactive role in combating climate change.
Adding to the discussion, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Attri, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu, discussed renewable resources and their role in reducing environmental catastrophes. He shared insights on protocols to tackle climate change and safeguard natural resources for future generations.
Dr. Sanjeev Anand, Associate Dean of Research and Development at SMVDU and the program coordinator, highlighted the need for urgent climate action in his welcome address. “Our planet is facing unprecedented challenges, and we must act decisively to promote knowledge and understanding of climate change to expedite the shift towards a sustainable future,” he said.
The program, co-coordinated by Dr. Vineet Tyagi, Dean of Research and Development at SMVDU, saw participation from Deans and Heads of various departments. Dr. Yatheshth Anand, Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering and the organizing secretary, delivered the formal vote of thanks.
