POONCH, FEB 06: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, and Mission Director of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Jammu and Kashmir, Khursheed Ahmad Shah, convened a meeting on Thursday to assess the progress of the centrally sponsored water supply initiative in the district. The review focused on the organizational framework, ongoing civil works, and challenges hindering implementation.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the Executive Engineer (Xen) of Jal Shakti provided a detailed briefing on the JJM schemes, revealing that out of 132 planned projects, 30 have been successfully completed. The officials discussed the status of various components, including borewells, pipe networks, ground service reservoirs (GSRs), and pump rooms.
The Mission Director stressed the need to expedite pending works and initiate those yet to begin, particularly in remote and urban areas, to ensure equitable access to clean drinking water. He instructed the engineers and concerned officials to prioritize quality and timely execution while ensuring strict supervision at all stages.
Notably, out of 112 mechanical works under the scheme, 26 have been completed, while 73 out of 97 electric substation works have been finished. The meeting also addressed project bottlenecks and emphasized efficient coordination among all stakeholders.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Engineer Jal Shakti, Vikas Sharma; SE Hydraulic Circle Poonch, Choudhary Mohammad Taj; Xen PHE Rajeev Ghai; SE Mechanical Bodh Raj Bhagat; consultants Er. Vijay Arora and Er. Gurcharan Singh; DPMU Poonch Er. Ranjeev Sawhney; and representatives from the third-party inspection agency.
