SHOPIAN, FEB 20: In a significant move against the growing drug menace, Shopian Police attached a double-storey residential house valued at ₹22,17,827 and seized cash amounting to ₹14,52,100 from three notorious drug peddlers in Melhura Zainapora area of Shopian district.

As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the assets belonged to Mudasir Ahmad Malik, Yawer Ahmad Malik, and Shahid-ul-Islam Malik, all sons of Gh Mohammad Malik. The action was carried out under Section 68-E read with 68-F(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive in the region.

The property attachment was linked to FIR No. 54/2021 and FIR No. 87/2023 of Police Station Zainapora. The operation was executed in the presence of a duly constituted police team and an Executive Magistrate, ensuring strict adherence to legal procedures.

Investigations revealed that the house and the seized cash were illegally acquired through proceeds from illicit drug trafficking.
This action highlights the police’s commitment to cracking down on drug networks in the district. Local residents have widely appreciated the initiative, viewing it as a decisive step towards curbing the drug menace and safeguarding the community.
