Peepal Van

JAMMU, JULY 27: Based on a unique concept to promote the environment, a ‘Peepal Van’ (Peepal Garden) on Saturday launched at Lakkad Mandi area of Jammu distict by the Department of Wildlife Protection Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with Peepal Saves People Foundation Trust at Lakkar Mandi Jammu.

As per the Release, the Peepal Van Project was inaugurated in a well attended gathering of activists, officials and members of civil society. The project will contribute to the overall environment of Jammu town besides adding aesthetics to it.

During plantation drive 130 Peepal (Ficus) including Glomerata and Bhargad planted.

Particular concept of creating Peepal Van initiative by Sarvesh Rai, Principal Chief Wildlife Warden, Jammu Kashmir Union Territory, Pritam Singh, Founder President, ‘Peepal Saves People Foundation Trust’, Dr Vishav Murti (Padam Shri Awardee), Sonam Chhewang, the Senior Divisional Manager, LIC of India, Srinagar Division, in his address briefed about the historical importance and traditional relevance of Peepal Tree in Indian ethos, culture and Ayurveda in Indian life.

Senior Officers of Forest Department participated in a plantation drive including Dr Kumar MK, Ramesh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Bishan Dass, Ilfit Ara, Vijay Kumar, Pankaj Raina, Sunil Kumar Attri, Saleem-ul Haq and a large number of volunteers.

The gathering was well attended by members of Manda Morning Walker Association, Students from Degree College Prade, Crescent Public School Janipur were present on the occasion.
