Jammu, Dec 25:

In a major leap toward modernizing law enforcement, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is set to implement an Artificial Intelligence-based (AI) Next-Generation Security Grid. The initiative aims to fortify both hinterland and border security while creating a high-tech shield against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat announced the development on Wednesday, confirming that a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu to spearhead the technological rollout.

Speaking in Jammu, DGP Prabhat revealed that the blueprint for this transition was shaped by discussions at the recent All India DGPs and IGPs Conference in Raipur. During that summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the transformative power of AI in generating “actionable intelligence.”

“J&K Police fully understands the force multiplier effect that AI can provide,” the DGP stated. “While change is inevitable, we must remain the masters of these machines, not just end-users.”

The collaboration with IIT Jammu will focus on integrating advanced algorithms into daily operations to support a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047. Identifying crime and terror hotspots before incidents occur. Speeding up investigations by processing massive data volumes. Strengthening the grid to detect and thwart infiltration attempts. Providing real-time analytical support to field officers.

Despite the push for automation, the DGP echoed the Prime Minister’s caution regarding ethical boundaries. He stressed that while AI can assist in computation, it cannot replace human judgment or the core values of the force.

“Machines are only as good as the data they are trained on,” Prabhat cautioned. “They can compute and assist, but they must never dictate. Technology must serve our values, not override them.”

The announcement comes on the heels of the ‘Antarvekshan 2025’ conference chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, where the UT administration reaffirmed a “zero-tolerance” policy toward the terror ecosystem. The DGP concluded by asserting that a secure India is the essential foundation for national development, coining the vision: “Surakshit Bharat is the foundation of Bharat@2047.”
