Habitual Drug Peddler

JAMMU, JAN 11: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), on Saturday arrested a habitual drug peddler and recovered heroin from his possession.

As per the release issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, led by SHO Inspector Vikram Sharma, apprehended a habitual drug peddler, Vinod Kumar alias Kuda, son of Joginder Pal, a resident of House No. 55, Dogra Hall, Jammu. The arrest was made near the Roop Nagar area, where the accused was found roaming suspiciously on his scooty. On spotting the police, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. Upon searching, approximately 5 grams of heroin were recovered from his possession.

Investigations revealed that Vinod Kumar has been involved in narcotics trafficking for several years, operating in the local area for financial gain. An FIR No. 04/2025 has been registered at Police Station Janipur under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway.

According to the police, Vinod Kumar is part of an active drug syndicate operating in Jammu, targeting vulnerable youth for illicit profit. This has led to numerous cases of overdose deaths in the region, becoming a source of anguish for parents whose children are at risk, especially those residing in hostels or attending tuitions in Jammu.

This arrest marks the fourth FIR against Vinod Kumar under the NDPS Act, underscoring his notoriety as a hardcore drug peddler with little regard for the law. It is also the 10th FIR in the past 20 days following the launch of the Zero Tolerance policy against drug peddlers by SDPO City West Jammu.

Senior officers, including SDPO City West and SP City North Vivek Shekhar (JKPS), under the overall supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS), are personally overseeing the investigation. Efforts are focused on dismantling the drug syndicate’s entire network and tracing the financial trail of proceeds from narcotics to attach any illegitimate property acquired by the accused.

The arrest of Vinod Kumar follows a series of successful operations that have led to the apprehension of other drug peddlers, including SgCt Mohd Mukhtiyar, SgCt Parwaiz Khan, Karamjeet alias Chamkor, Sandeep Nirala, Farzan Shah, and Vikas Manni, along with their associates.
