GST Evasion

ANANTNAG, MAR 16: In a recent enforcement drive, the South Kashmir enforcement team detected a GST evasion of ₹6.31 lakh during a special naka laid on the intervening night of March 14 and 15. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officials intercepted two vehicles transporting battery scrap without proper GST documentation, imposing penalties on the traders involved.

As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the GST authorities have observed a rising trend of battery scrap transactions being conducted without proper invoicing, registration, or tax payments. Under GST law, all supplies, including battery scrap, must be accurately documented and taxed. Non-compliance not only violates GST regulations but also poses risks to environmental and public health.

Businesses engaged in the trading and recycling of battery scrap have been urged to ensure proper GST registration and compliance. Authorities emphasized that these measures promote transparency, fair competition, and proper handling of hazardous materials in line with environmental and health regulations.

The department has advised traders, recyclers, and transporters to review their GST compliance status and rectify any discrepancies to avoid further penalties and operational scrutiny. For clarifications, affected businesses are encouraged to contact the GST department or visit the official government website.

The enforcement drive was conducted under the supervision of Anil Kumar Chandail, Deputy Commissioner, Enforcement South Kashmir, and was guided by P.K. Bhat, Commissioner of State Taxes, J&K, and Parvez A. Raina, Additional Commissioner, State Taxes, Kashmir.
