JAMMU, JAN 14: In a major crackdown under the Zero Tolerance Policy against drug abuse, Police Post Greater Kailash on Tuesday apprehended a drug peddler and seized approximately 20 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession while he was en route to Greater Kailash.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the accused, identified as Sunny Gupta, son of Munni Lal Gupta, a resident of Teli Basti, Bari Brahmana, Samba, was found to be engaged in the illegal trade of narcotic substances for undue profit. The arrest came as part of a targeted effort to curb the growing menace of drug peddling in the region.
A case, registered under FIR No. 09/2025 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act at Police Station Gangyal, has been taken up for further investigation. The operation was led by SHO Inspector Satvir Singh and ICPP Greater Kailash PSI Wasim Bhatti under the supervision of the Sub-Division City South Police.
Drug peddling has become a serious issue, leading to the exploitation of vulnerable youth and numerous overdose deaths in the recent past. Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on such illegal activities to safeguard the younger generation.
The swift action by the police has garnered appreciation from the public, who have praised the efforts to register multiple FIRs under the NDPS Act and eradicate this social menace.
Authorities have urged citizens to report any illicit activities to the police, assuring confidentiality of their identity, and pledged to continue their relentless efforts against drug-related crimes.
