KATHUA, DEC 07: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma (IPS), convened a comprehensive security and winter preparedness review meeting in Billawar, Kathua district on Saturday.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the session was attended by senior police officers, including SSP Kathua Shobit Saxena (IPS), SP Operations Aumer Iqbal, Dy.SP Operations Malhar Sukhvir Singh, SDPO Billawar Shavinder Singh, SHO Billawar, and officials from security agencies, along with CRPF representatives.
The DIG emphasized the need for a robust security framework to counter threats posed by Over Ground Workers (OGWs), Anti-National Elements (ANEs), and Anti-Social Elements (ASEs). He directed officers to strengthen security measures and conduct public awareness drives, encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities promptly to local police stations.
Highlighting the importance of neutralizing terrorist support systems in vulnerable areas such as Malhar, Machedi, and Badnota, DIG Sharma called for enhanced vigilance through night patrols and checkpoints. He stressed the installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations, including Ujh Bridge, Varun Devta Bridge, and Ludhar Bridge, ensuring proper record-keeping to monitor miscreant activities.
“Strengthening the security grid and maintaining seamless coordination with all security agencies is crucial for tackling challenges effectively,” DIG Sharma stated, directing officers to establish routine checkpoints and improve grassroots-level security efforts.
He also issued directives for securing infiltration-prone routes along the Ujh river and other nallahs, stressing the need for regular Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) to eliminate terrorist threats.
