JAMMU, FEB 05: In response to rising gangster activities, robbery, and theft cases in Jammu, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) JSK (Jammu-Samba-Kathua) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma (IPS), chaired a high-level meeting at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu to strategize crime control measures on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS), SP North, SP South, SP Headquarters, SP Rural, SP Operations, and all DySPs, SDPOs, DySP DSB, and DySP (DAR) of Jammu.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, intelligence agencies provided an overview of the operational methods of criminal gangs, including their sources of financial support, weapon procurement, vehicles, shelters, and communication networks.
The DIG JSK Range emphasized a zero-tolerance approach toward gangsters, drug peddlers, thieves, vehicle lifters, and other anti-social elements. He directed officers to maintain detailed lists of offenders for effective surveillance and to dismantle their financial networks. Properties acquired through illegal means such as extortion, land grabbing, and illicit property dealings are to be seized. Individuals, including relatives and friends, found harboring or supporting criminals will face strict legal action.
Key Directives Issued During the Meeting:
1. *Crackdown on Criminals and Their Networks:
– Stern action against gangsters, drug peddlers, and vehicle lifters.
– Continuous monitoring of their financial sources and confiscation of illegally acquired assets.
– Identification and prosecution of supporters providing shelter and assistance to criminals.
2. Intensified Efforts Against Recent Crimes:
– Special focus on recent cases of theft, firing, and robbery.
– A mission-oriented approach to combat drug trafficking.
– Increased vigilance on suspicious individuals to counter anti-national activities.
3. No Glorification of Gangsters on Social Media:
– Legal action against those promoting criminal activities on social media, TV, or online portals.
– Media fraternity urged to expose criminal networks rather than glorifying them.
– Family members and parents of known criminals warned against harboring them.
4. *Implementation of Special Operations:
The meeting reviewed several ongoing operations aimed at curbing criminal activities:
– Operation CLEANUP* – Targeting gangsters.
– Operation SANJEEVANI* – Focused on drug control.
– Operation PATHSHALA, KAMDHENU, AVTAR, THIRD EYE, MEGHDOOT – Various initiatives to enhance law enforcement efficiency.
5. *Enhanced Security Measures:
– Strengthening of security checkpoints (nakas) across Jammu.
– Coordination with Army, paramilitary forces, and central intelligence agencies.
6. Surveillance on Anti-Social Elements:
– Active monitoring of Over Ground Workers (OGWs), history-sheeters, and troublemakers.
– Special Operations Groups (SOG) and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) activated for rapid response.
7. Crackdown on Illegal Vehicles:
– Drive against vehicles with tinted windows, illegal modifications, loud music, and missing number plates.
– Strict action against individuals possessing illegal weapons and those involved in land grabbing.
The meeting concluded with a call for public cooperation to maintain peace and security in Jammu. The DIG assured citizens that J&K Police remains committed to their safety and warned against rumormongers and those spreading fake news. He urged society, media, NGOs, and ex-police personnel to join hands in eradicating criminal elements from Jammu.
