Jammu, May 1:

In response to the biannual ‘Darbar Move’ and in preparation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 84 Battalion has placed security arrangements on maximum alert along a crucial 47-km stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).

The stepped-up security comes as thousands of civil secretariat employees, VVIPs, ministers, and high-ranking officials began their transit from Jammu to Srinagar on the morning of April 30. The civil secretariat is scheduled to officially reopen in the summer capital, Srinagar, on May 4, 2026.

Key Security Measures on the 47-Km Stretch

The CRPF 84 Battalion, stationed at Chanderkote in Ramban, holds jurisdiction over a high-priority segment of NH-44 stretching from the 9.8-km-long Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel (Nashri portal) down to Digdol.

To ensure the safety and convenience of commuters, the CRPF has mobilized specialized resources:

  • High-Tech Surveillance: Deployment of advanced drones to monitor traffic flow and vantage points.

  • Specialized Teams: Counter-IED teams, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS), and highly trained Sniffer Dog Squads are actively sweeping the route.

  • Quick Action Teams (QAT): Strategically positioned to respond instantly to any emergency along the highway.

“For the ‘Darbar Move’, our preparations are at the highest level of alertness, as well as physical and mental readiness. Most of our personnel will be on the ground. We will completely dominate the highway to ensure a peaceful and successful move.”

N Ranbir Singh, Commandant, CRPF 84 Battalion

Preparing the Ground for the Amarnath Yatra

Beyond the immediate requirements of the civil secretariat transit, the enhanced security deployment serves as the foundational preparation for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

The pilgrimage passes entirely through this mountainous highway, making it one of the most vital corridors in the region. To prevent any disruptions, Road Opening Patrols (ROP) have been activated in full force.

These ROP teams begin clearing, sensitizing, and securing the highway early each morning, working in staggered shifts to maintain a vigilant presence until the evening or late at night. According to the battalion leadership, maximizing personnel on the ground and integrating real-time intelligence will remain the top priority to ensure a peaceful and secure pilgrimage season.
