JAMMU, MAR 06: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Section Officer of the Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section, Agriculture Production Department, Civil Secretariat, Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 through a UPI transaction on Thursday.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, a case was registered by the CBI on March 5, 2025, against the accused based on allegations that he had demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh from the complainant. The bribe was sought in exchange for processing the complainant’s father’s appointment as a Stock Assistant in the department, in connection with Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 by the J&K Service Selection Board and a CAT (Jammu) order dated October 15, 2024.
The accused allegedly negotiated the amount and instructed the complainant to transfer an initial sum of ₹50,000 via UPI, promising to demand the remaining amount once a favorable decision was secured.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on March 5, 2025, and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe through an online UPI transaction. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused’s residential premises in Jammu.
The accused was presented before the Special Judge for Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 6, 2025, and has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. The investigation is ongoing.
