Altaf Thakur

SRINAGAR, FEB 04: BJP leader and Jammu & Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur on Tuesday countered National Conference (NC) MP Aga Syed Ruhullah over his remarks on Article 370 abrogation, stating that no new grave was dug due to violence post the revocation of J&K’s special status.

Thakur dismissed Ruhullah’s claim that Article 370 abrogation had choked J&K’s economy, asserting that the region has instead witnessed unprecedented peace and progress since August 2019. He highlighted a significant decline in militancy-related incidents, a growing sense of stability and security, and record voter turnout in elections, reflecting public trust in the democratic process.

Responding to Ruhullah’s concerns about the safety of Muslims in India, Thakur said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, every community enjoys equal opportunities and the government’s focus remains on inclusive development.

Thakur also criticized Ruhullah’s demand for restoring J&K’s pre-1953 position, labeling it an outdated and separatist narrative that the people have rejected. He stated that the current priority is peace, development, and full integration of the Union Territory with the rest of the country.
