Anti-Drug Awareness

JAMMU< FEB 24: In a concerted effort to combat substance abuse, the District Administration Jammu on Monday organized a series of anti-drug awareness programmes across 38 panchayats on Monday as part of a three-month Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign that began on February 10, 2025.

As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the awareness drive is being conducted under the supervision of District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya, with the aim of educating communities about the harmful effects of drug addiction and promoting preventive measures.

The programmes featured a variety of engaging activities, including street plays (nukkad nataks), video testimonials, short films, and rallies, all designed to highlight the devastating consequences of drug abuse. A collaborative initiative, the campaign brings together departments such as Health, Education, Social Welfare, and Police to ensure a comprehensive and far-reaching impact.

Additional District Magistrate Ansuya Jamwal, the Nodal Officer for the campaign, emphasized the significance of community involvement in addressing the growing issue of substance abuse. “Public participation is crucial in our fight against drug addiction. Together, we can create a safer and healthier environment for our youth,” she noted.

A key highlight of the campaign has been motivational talks delivered by individuals who have successfully recovered from addiction, offering real-life perspectives and hope to those struggling with substance abuse.

With a total of 305 events planned over the three-month campaign, the administration is committed to raising widespread awareness. Weekly drives are being conducted at various designated locations, targeting diverse sections of society to foster a united stand against drug abuse.
