Kashmir, Dec 24:
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing “War on Drugs,” the Anantnag Police on Wednesday apprehended two individuals, both residents of Punjab, for their alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking. The operation led to the seizure of a significant quantity of a heroin-like substance.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of contraband, a specialized police team established a checkpoint at the Harnag–Bategoo bypass. During the operation, officers intercepted two suspicious individuals.
A thorough search of the suspects led to the recovery of approximately 65 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bhupinder Singh, son of Chanan Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur and Balbir Chand, son of Kishan Chand, also a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab. Both suspects were taken into custody on the spot, and the recovered material was seized following standard legal protocols.
Authorities have officially registered FIR No. 265/2025 at the Anantnag Police Station. The duo has been booked under the following sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act: Section 8: Prohibition of certain operations, Section 21: Punishment for contravention in relation to manufactured drugs and preparations and Section 29: Punishment for abetment and criminal conspiracy.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a deeper investigation is underway to “unearth the backward and forward linkages” of this module and to determine if there are more individuals involved in this interstate supply chain.
The Anantnag Police reaffirmed their commitment to making the district drug-free. “The menace of drugs is a social evil that we are committed to eliminating. We urge the general public to come forward and share any information regarding drug abuse or trafficking in their neighborhoods. Your cooperation is vital to this mission.”
