Jammu, Feb 21:

In a push to revitalize linguistic heritage in Jammu and Kashmir, the VOW Club (Regd.) marked International Mother Language Day today at the Evergreen Himalayan Institute. The event centered on a passionate call for the mandatory introduction of Sanskrit and Dogri from the primary level through 10+2 in the Union Territory.

Cognitive Growth Through Mother Tongue

Mr. Balwinder Singh Pawar, President of the VOW Club, headlined the event with an emphasis on the psychological and developmental benefits of native language education.

“If our young generation studies in their mother tongue, their cognitive skills will develop to their fullest extent. This is the foundation for becoming truly great human beings,” Pawar stated.

Pawar further lauded Sanskrit as the world’s most scientific language, noting that even developed nations are increasingly encouraging its study to foster a scientific temper and an appreciation for Vedic literature.

A 75-Year Wait for Linguistic Rights

The program’s Chief Guest, Sh. O.P. Deepak, highlighted a long-standing gap in the regional education system. He remarked that for 75 years, the people of the region have waited for the formal integration of Sanskrit and Dogri at the primary level.

  • Key Insight: Deepak believes this move will significantly bolster the intellectual and cultural “mighty Dogra” identity, making the community educationally stronger.

Institutional Support and Cultural Highlights

The Managing Director of Evergreen Himalayan Institute, Mr. Kuldeep Raj Sharma, expressed his institution’s full commitment to the cause. He welcomed any government initiative that would make Dogri and Sanskrit compulsory subjects, citing the school’s readiness to enhance such cultural and linguistic programs.

Event Highlights:

  • Student Engagement: Moving speeches delivered by students on the importance of their heritage.

  • Cultural Showcase: A vibrant display of local traditions through a curated cultural program.

  • Appreciation: The initiative received widespread praise from attendees and local community leaders.

The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Madam Mamta Sharma, acknowledging the collective effort to preserve the linguistic soul of the region.
