Srinagar, Jan 24:
A gloom has descended over the summer capital today as three non-local residents, including two elderly women tourists, were found dead in separate incidents across the city. The sudden nature of the deaths has prompted the Jammu and Kashmir Police to launch a formal investigation into each case.
Timeline of the Incidents
The series of tragic discoveries began early Friday morning, spanning from the city’s high-traffic tourist hubs to its industrial outskirts.
-
Munawarabad: Kamla Bai, a 65-year-old tourist from Karnataka, was found unconscious in her hotel room. Hotel staff immediately alerted authorities, and she was rushed to Khyber Hospital in Khayam. Doctors, however, declared her “brought dead” upon arrival.
-
Rajbagh: In a similar incident, a 53-year-old woman hailing from Gujarat was discovered dead inside her hotel room in the Rajbagh area.
-
Khanmoh: On the city’s industrial periphery, a 51-year-old labourer from Kerala was found dead inside his living quarters at a local cement factory.
Investigation Underway
Local officials have stated that while the deaths occurred within the same 24-hour period, there is currently no evidence to suggest they are linked.
“The exact cause of death in all three cases is not yet known. We have initiated inquest proceedings under the law, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the clinical cause of death,” a senior police official told the press.
