Jammu, March 16:
In a landmark ceremony blending academic excellence with historical tribute, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today unveiled a commemorative bust of Shri Maharaja Ranbir Singh Ji at the Jammu Campus of the Central Sanskrit University (CSU).
Marking a significant cultural milestone, the LG also formally announced that the institution will now be proudly known as the Shri Maharaja Ranbir Singh Campus, a tribute to the ruler who laid the foundation for modern Jammu and Kashmir.
A Debt of Gratitude to the Architect of Reforms
Addressing a gathering of scholars, students, and local dignitaries, LG Sinha emphasized that the nation owes a “profound debt” to Maharaja Ranbir Singh.
“Maharaja Ranbir Singh was not just a ruler but a visionary reformer who forged a robust and thriving J&K. His contributions to the revitalization of the Sanskrit language and the preservation of our cultural heritage remain unparalleled,” the LG stated.
The LG highlighted several pillars of the Maharaja’s legacy:
-
Judicial Renaissance: The introduction of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), which modernized the state’s legal framework.
-
Cultural Hub: Turning Jammu into a “City of Temples” and establishing the Dharmarth Trust to manage heritage sites.
-
Economic Progress: His efforts in promoting the silk and shawl industries that sustained thousands of artisans.
-
Education for All: Establishing some of the region’s first modern Pathshalas and contributing significantly to the founding of Punjab University.
Transforming the CSU Jammu Campus
The renaming of the campus—formerly the Central Sanskrit University, Jammu—aligns with the administration’s broader mission to reconnect the youth with the historical icons of the soil.
The campus, which has long been a hub for traditional learning, including Kashmir Shaiva Darshana and Veda studies, will now carry the name of the patron who initially established the Shri Raghunath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya in the 19th century.
