In a landmark 50th Board meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) today unveiled a series of major upgrades and spiritual initiatives for the upcoming 2026 pilgrimage.

From enhanced safety nets for pilgrims to high-tech cultural storytelling, the Board is gearing up for one of the most technologically advanced and secure Yatras to date.

1. Pratham Pooja & Yatra Commencement

The Board officially announced that the Pratham Pooja for the 2026 pilgrimage will be performed on June 29, 2026, marking the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Purnimaa. While the ceremonial prayers are set, the formal dates for the public Yatra commencement will be finalized and released shortly.

2. Laser & Sound Show: ‘Baba Barfani’ in Light

In a move to boost spiritual tourism and cultural awareness, the SASB approved the installation of a Laser and Sound Show dedicated to Lord Shiva (Baba Barfani).

  • Locations: Srinagar and Jammu.

  • Objective: To serve as a cultural beacon highlighting the rich spiritual history of Jammu and Kashmir for devotees and tourists alike.

3. Massive Hike in Accidental Insurance

In a major welfare move, the Board has doubled the accidental insurance cover.

  • Old Cover: ₹5 Lakh

  • New Cover: ₹10 Lakh

  • Beneficiaries: Registered Yatris, service providers (ponywallas, pithu wallas), government officials, seasonal workers, and pujaris.

4. Infrastructure & Safety Upgrades

LG Manoj Sinha issued strict directives to ensure a seamless “track-to-shrine” experience:

  • Shelter & Sanitation: Identification of spots for new toilet facilities and the installation of rain shelters/shelter sheds along the rugged tracks.

  • Track Progress: The Border Roads Organization (BRO) reported significant progress in widening the tracks on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes to ensure safer movement.

  • Safety Barriers: Installation of crash barriers and safety railings along vulnerable stretches is currently underway.

5. Digital & Medical Interventions

The meeting reviewed a comprehensive roadmap for 2026, including:

  • Digital Pre-paid System: Streamlining the hiring of essential services.

  • Weather Systems: Advanced weather forecasting infrastructure to provide real-time updates to pilgrims.

  • Telecommunication: Strengthening grid connectivity and mobile signals in high-altitude zones.

  • Medical Care: Extensive provisioning of medical facilities and disaster mitigation measures.

The Leadership Panel

The high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan, Jammu, saw the participation of prominent Board members including Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj and CEO Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, alongside the Chief Secretary and top security brass.

“The priority is to enhance the spiritual experience and ensure every devotee feels safe and supported,” LG Manoj Sinha remarked during the session.
