Jammu, January 5:

As the city shifts into high gear for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, the Jammu Police (South Zone) have initiated a strict enforcement drive to ensure public safety. In a recent move to tighten security, the Police Post Narwal has registered two separate cases against homeowners for failing to conduct mandatory police verification for their tenants.

The action follows a standing order from the District Magistrate (DM), Jammu, which mandates that all landlords must register their tenants with the local police. With Republic Day less than three weeks away, authorities are leaving nothing to chance, viewing unverified residents as a potential security loophole.

Details of the FIRs Registered

The Police Station Bahu Fort registered the cases under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The individuals booked are: Shakeela (Wife of Pritam Chand), resident of Rajiv Nagar, Narwal. (FIR No. 09/2026) and Rohit Kumar (Son of Late Dharampal), resident of Narwal. (FIR No. 11/2026).

The enforcement drive was a coordinated effort by the Jammu Police department to maintain a “zero-tolerance” policy toward security negligence.

The Jammu Police have reiterated that tenant verification is not just a legal formality but a vital component of national security, especially during high-profile events.

“We appeal to all house owners to strictly adhere to the verification guidelines. Your cooperation is essential to maintain peace and ensure a safe environment for our Republic Day celebrations.” — Jammu Police Statement

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station immediately.
