Jammu, Jan 28:
The Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir unit has lashed out at the current administration, alleging a growing trend of regional bias that favors the Kashmir division over Jammu. In a press conference held at the party’s state central office, State President Manish Sahni warned that discrimination at educational and developmental levels would no longer be tolerated.
The NLU Controversy: A Demand for Equality
The primary flashpoint of the protest is the establishment of the National Law University (NLU). Sahni argued that granting the prestigious legal institution to only one region violates the rights of students in the Jammu province.
To resolve the brewing dispute, Sahni proposed a Multi-Campus Model for the NLU.
“Political games are being played with Jammu. Whether it is the closure of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College or the exclusion of Jammu players from the Santosh Trophy, these are not coincidences—they are deliberate experiments,” Sahni stated.
Criticism of BJP and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah
Sahni did not mince words when addressing the political landscape:
-
On CM Omar Abdullah: He dismissed the Chief Minister’s claims about Jammu already having IITs and IIMs, calling such statements “adding fuel to the fire.”
-
On the BJP: He accused the BJP of being a “silent spectator” while Jammu’s interests are compromised.
The Shiv Sena leader urged the government to either open a second NLU in Jammu or ensure a combined campus model to prevent the institution from falling victim to internal regional disputes.
“Education vs. Casteism”: Shiv Sena Slams New UGC Regulations
In a separate but equally sharp critique, Manish Sahni reacted to the UGC’s “Regulations, 2026 on Promoting Equality in Higher Educational Institutions.” Sahni alleged that the new regulations, rather than promoting equality, are sowing seeds of caste-based discrimination among students. He warned that these policies could lead to “conflict rather than education.”
Key Concerns Raised:
-
Dividing Hindus: Sahni claimed that after using religion to divide communities, there is now an attempt to divide Hindus through “forward vs. backward” caste politics.
-
Insulting Traditions: He highlighted a perceived conspiracy to insult Jagatguru Shankaracharya as part of a larger divisive tactic.
-
Bureaucratic Split: The party noted that even government officials and saints are being forced into “two camps,” threatening mutual brotherhood.
“Educational institutions are places for all religions and castes. We are witnessing a serious warning for the country’s future where students’ minds are being poisoned with casteism,” Sahni added.
