In a major breakthrough under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan”, the District Police Reasi intercepted a drug trafficking attempt, arresting one smuggler and seizing a commercial quantity of heroin.
The operation, executed by the Reasi Police Station, is being hailed as a significant dent in the local narcotics supply chain.
The Crackdown: How the Operation Unfolded
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the Reasi Police Station received actionable intelligence regarding the movement of contraband along the Reasi-Jyotipuram route.
The informant specified that a suspect was transporting narcotics in a red hatchback, aiming to distribute the stash to local buyers for illicit financial gains.
Key Details of the Bust

The Suspect: Mohd Tariq, son of Ghulam Mohd, a resident of Jij, Thakrakote, Reasi.

The Vehicle: A red Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R bearing the registration number JK20-8180.

The Interception point: Near the Bada Pathar Mari area on the Jyotipuram road.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team set up a strategic checkpoint. The red Wagon-R was successfully intercepted, and a thorough search of the vehicle and the suspect was conducted.
Contraband Seized and Legal Action
During the search, police personnel recovered approximately 16.67 grams of heroin from Tariq’s possession. The contraband was immediately confiscated, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Following the recovery, the Reasi Police officially registered FIR No. 93/2026. The accused has been booked under stringent sections of the law:
Legal Charges Filed: Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigation Deepens: Unmasking the Network
While the immediate threat has been neutralized, senior officials emphasized that the operation is far from over. A meticulous investigation is currently underway to track both the backward and forward linkages of this operation.
Investigators are working to identify the major suppliers (the source) as well as the intended street-level distributors and buyers associated with Tariq.
