Jammu, May 23:

Continuing its drive against the smuggling of illicit liquor, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a bootlegger and recovered 79 bottles of JK Desi Whisky from his possession in the Phallian Mandal area on Friday.

The arrest was made during a routine vehicle checking drive (naka) on the Ring Road in Sohanjana.

The Interception

According to police sources, a team from the Police Post Phallian Mandal had set up a routine checkpoint on the Ring Road near Sohanjana. During the checking, police personnel intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK02CF-0863.

Upon searching the rider and the vehicle, cops recovered 79 bottles of JK Desi Whisky (180 ml each) that were being transported illegally.

Accused Identified

The apprehended individual has been identified as Arun Singh, son of Daleep Singh. While he is originally a resident of Sunderbani Kangri (Tehsil Beripattan, District Rajouri), he is currently residing in Phallian Mandal, Jammu.

The illicit liquor and the two-wheeler were seized on the spot by the police party after completing the necessary legal formalities.

Case Registered

A case FIR No. 110/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused at the Satwari Police Station. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to trace the source of the illicit liquor and determine if a larger bootlegging network is involved.
