Jammu, January 29:
In a significant move to address the grievances of government staff, Hon’ble MLA Haveli, Shri Ajaz Ahmed Jan, held a detailed interaction with a delegation of Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) employees during a public Darbar at Dak Bungalow, Poonch.
The meeting focused on the systemic hurdles and financial disparities faced by MTS personnel across Jammu & Kashmir, with the MLA promising to elevate their concerns to the highest levels of the UT administration.
Key Issues Raised: The 2018 Pay Anomaly
The delegation, led by the MTS Association Poonch and supervised by State President Mr. Abu Howaida, highlighted several critical issues that have hampered their career progression for years.
Central to the discussion was the pay anomaly affecting sub-level posts. This issue traces back to a 2018 Cabinet decision which introduced sub-levels but inadvertently created wage disparities and stagnant promotion avenues for ground-level employees.
The delegation’s primary demands include:
-
Rectification of the pay scale disparity for sub-level posts.
-
Establishment of a transparent and smooth promotion policy.
-
Ensuring structured career progression for long-serving MTS members.
MLA’s Assurance: “A Priority for the Assembly”
After giving the delegation a patient hearing, Shri Ajaz Ahmed Jan took a formal note of the problems. He emphasized that the role of MTS employees is fundamental to the daily functioning of government offices and that their legitimate rights must be protected.
“Your demands are genuine and have been pending for far too long,” MLA Ajaz Jan told the delegation. “I will personally take up these matters with the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Omar Abdullah Sahib, and ensure they are discussed in the upcoming J&K Assembly session.”
The MLA further committed to advocating for a comprehensive review of the 2018 decision to ensure that promotions are no longer stalled and that pay structures reflect the hard work of the staff.
The Delegation
The interaction was attended by high-ranking members of the MTS Association J&K, including: Mr. Abu Howaida (State President), District President (Poonch), District Vice President (Poonch) and Senior members of the MTS Association.
The delegation expressed their gratitude to the MLA for his proactive approach and expressed hope that the intervention of the Chief Minister would finally resolve the decade-long uncertainty regarding their professional status.
