Jammu, January 9:
In a significant blow to the cross-border narco-terror ecosystem, the Jammu Police South Zone has made a fresh breakthrough in the high-profile Gandhi Nagar syndicate case. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested another key accused and recovered a cache of weapons, including a specialized Beretta pistol and live ammunition.
The Latest Arrest: Rohit Kumar alias ‘Makhan’
Continuing the deep-dive investigation into FIR No. 249/2025, police apprehended Rohit Kumar @ Makhan, son of Bodh Raj and a resident of Raiyan Kotliyan, R.S. Pura.
Following his arrest on January 3rd and subsequent interrogation, the SIT conducted a targeted raid at his residence on January 7th. The search led to the recovery of: One Px5 Storm Beretta Pistol (.30 bore), One Magazine and Three Live Rounds.
The accused is currently in police custody, with investigators working to map his specific role in the supply chain and his connections to handlers across the border.
Background: Unearthing the Gandhi Nagar Module
The case dates back to November 14, 2025, when PS Gandhi Nagar first intercepted two individuals during a routine patrol. That initial arrest blew the lid off a massive, multi-layered syndicate involving:
-
Drug Peddlers: Moving high-grade narcotics across district lines.
-
Financial Handlers: Managing the money trail of the illegal trade.
-
Jail-Based Facilitators: Coordinating operations from behind bars.
To date, the investigation has led to the seizure of over 4.95 kg of heroin-like substance, multiple pistols (including a Glock), and modified vehicles used for smuggling.
A Transnational Threat
Senior officials stated that the module represents a “well-organized narco-terror network” with verified cross-border linkages. The syndicate is believed to be a tool for “unconventional warfare,” using drug money to fund terror activities while simultaneously targeting the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police Commitment: Operation Sanjeevani
Jammu Police reiterated their commitment to dismantling the entire narco-terror infrastructure. “Our efforts are intensifying to identify the remaining associates and trace the exact routes used for arms supply and financial laundering,” a police spokesperson said.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help keep the region’s youth safe from the “white poison” of narcotics.
