Jammu | May 25, 2026 — In a stellar display of honesty and prompt public service, the checking staff of Northern Railway’s Jammu Division successfully traced and safely returned high-value personal belongings to passengers in two separate incidents over the weekend.
From an Apple iPad left behind by a child to a bag packed with cash and valuables, the quick coordination of railway personnel has won praise from passengers and top officials alike.
Incident 1: The Misplaced Bag at Katra Station
The first incident unfolded on Friday, May 22, 2026, when a passenger named Shri Pankaj was traveling with his family in the Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 26404). The family, seated in Coach C5 (Seats 55, 56, and 57), accidentally left one of their bags behind while rushing to deboard at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station.
Realizing the mistake after getting off, Pankaj immediately rushed to the Ticket Inspector Office at the Katra station to report the lost luggage, which contained valuable personal items and hard cash.
The station staff instantly alerted the ticket checking crew still on board the Vande Bharat train. A quick sweep of the coach revealed the bag exactly where the family had left it. The train crew secured the bag and handed it over to Shri Abdul Rashid at the Ticket Inspector Office at the very next station in Jammu. A relieved Pankaj expressed his deep gratitude to the entire team for their lightning-fast communication.
Incident 2: International Athlete Turned Conductor Saves the Day
The second incident, occurring on Saturday, May 23, 2026, featured a touch of star power. A family traveling from Batala to Sirhind in Coach C1 (Seats 6 and 7) of Train No. 22430 realized after deboarding that their child’s Apple iPad had been left on their seats.
Fortunately for them, the coach was being managed by Train Conductor Shri Amarjeet Singh (CIT, Pathankot)—who is also an International Athlete representing the railways.
Singh discovered the iPad during his post-journey inspection of the coach. Demonstrating exemplary initiative, he used the railway booking details to track down and contact the family directly. Instead of making them travel long distances to claim it, Singh met up with the passenger’s relatives in Batala the following day, May 24, to hand over the gadget safely.
“Commitment to Integrity”
Reacting to back-to-back successes by his division’s staff, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Shri Uchit Singhal praised the employees for upholding the finest values of Indian Railways.
“The Jammu Division of Northern Railway is deeply committed to passenger safety, security, and assistance. Such acts by railway personnel reflect their dedication and integrity towards passenger service,” Singhal said in an official statement.
The official press brief was issued today by Raghvender Singh, Public Relations Inspector for the Jammu Division.
