Srinagar, March 15:
In a poignant ceremony held at Lok Bhavan on Sunday, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha reaffirmed his administration’s “profound commitment to justice” by handing over appointment letters to the Next of Kin (NoKs) of victims of terrorism.
The event, marking a significant milestone in the rehabilitation of terror-affected families in the Kashmir Division, saw 27 families receive official employment documents, alongside 22 NoKs of deceased government employees under the Jammu & Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme-2022.
“Not Just Shuffling Files”: A Mission for Redress
Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha emphasized that this initiative transcends mere bureaucracy. He described the distribution of jobs as a “living testament” to true justice, aimed at ensuring no family falls through the “cracks of neglect.”
“It is not merely an administrative exercise of signing papers or filling posts. Our campaign has restored their tomorrow, dispelling the shadow of injustice that has loomed for decades,” the LG stated.
Key Highlights of the LG’s Address:
-
Justice at the Doorstep: To date, approximately 400 NoKs have received employment through this specialized campaign.
-
Reopening Cold Cases: The LG vowed that pending cases of terrorism will be reopened to ensure perpetrators are held strictly accountable.
-
Property Restoration: Instructions were issued to the Principal Secretary Home to conduct a comprehensive review of property encroachment. “Homes forcibly seized from terror-affected families will be liberated and returned,” Sinha affirmed.
-
Support for the Disabled: The administration is chalking out a robust framework to rehabilitate victims who have suffered permanent disabilities or loss of eyesight due to terror attacks.
A Vision Rooted in Social Justice
Reflecting on the progress made since August 2020, the Lieutenant Governor credited the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for shifting the trajectory of Jammu Kashmir. He noted that the goal is to forge a region “undefined by the pains of its past, but brimming with self-confidence.”
The campaign, which originally launched in Baramulla last year, has been described as a turning point for “poor and vulnerable brothers and sisters” who had previously lost hope of government redress.
Call for Unity and Vigilance
While highlighting the administration’s “Zero Tolerance towards Terrorism” policy, LG Sinha called upon the citizens to remain vigilant against separatist elements.
“We must foil the efforts of those attempting to divide us along sectarian lines,” he said. “We are Indians; our collective duty is the peace and progress of our nation.”
Dignitaries in Attendance: The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials including Principal Secretary Home Shri Chandraker Bharti, IGP Kashmir Shri VK Birdi, and representatives from the Save Youth Save Future Foundation.
