Jammu, Feb 16:

In a major move to boost regional tourism and restore normalcy, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Monday ordered the immediate reopening of 14 tourist destinations across the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.

The decision follows a comprehensive security review and high-level discussions. These sites had been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure following the tragic security incident in Pahalgam in April 2025. With today’s announcement, the total number of tourist spots reopened in recent months has risen to 26.

“After a thorough security review and discussion, I’ve ordered the reopening of more tourist spots in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions… to facilitate tourism while ensuring the safety of visitors,” the Office of the LG stated on X.

Now Open: Destinations Ready for Visitors

The following 14 locations are cleared for immediate public access:

Kashmir Division (11 Spots) Jammu Division (3 Spots)
Budgam: Yousmarg, Doodhpathri Reasi: Devi Pindi
Shopian: Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan, Padpawan Ramban: Mahu Mangat
Srinagar: Astanpora, Tulip Garden Kishtwar: Mughal Maidan
Ganderbal: Thajwas Glacier, Hung Park
Anantnag: Dandipora Park (Kokernag)
Baramulla: Wular Lake / Watlab

Reopening Pending Snow Clearance

While 14 sites are open now, four additional high-altitude destinations are slated to reopen as soon as the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and local authorities clear the winter snow:

  • Kashmir Division: Gurez Valley (Bandipora), Athwatoo (Bandipora), and Bangus Valley (Kupwara).

  • Jammu Division: Ramkund (Ramban District).

Reviving the Tourism Sector

The phased reopening is seen as a “signal of the complete reversal” of the safety concerns that peaked last year. Local stakeholders, including houseboat owners and tour operators, have welcomed the move, expecting a significant surge in footfall as the spring season approaches—particularly with the world-famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar now officially on the “immediate reopen” list.
