Jammu, June 2:

The Kathua District Police have issued a strong rebuttal following widespread social media rumors alleging that a large number of women and young girls have gone missing from the district, with a particular focus on the Billawar area.

Terming the viral reports highly misleading and unsubstantiated, authorities released official statistics to clear the air and reassure the public regarding citizen safety.

The police clarification shed light on the nature of these cases, noting that the reality on the ground drastically differs from the alarming narratives circulating online:

  • Voluntary Departures: Investigative findings reveal that most of the traced women and girls had left their homes voluntarily and of their own free will, often driven by personal reasons or marriage.

  • Legal Protocols: Once a missing person is traced, their official statement is recorded before a competent legal authority to ensure safety and consent, strictly adhering to prescribed legal procedures.

  • Family Reunions: In a significant majority of these resolved cases, the individuals have been safely reunited with their families or guardians.

“Every missing person report received at our police stations is promptly registered and investigated with professionalism. The public is requested not to spread misinformation. Please verify facts before sharing any information on social media platforms.” — Kathua Police Statement

The district police administration reiterated its commitment to public safety, urging social media users to exercise responsibility and avoid sharing unverified, sensationalized claims that cause unnecessary panic within local communities.
