SRINAGAR, OCT 07: As Jammu & Kashmir awaits the vote counting for the 2024 Assembly elections, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Nayeem Akhtar has expressed the party’s willingness to support a Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance if required.
“We are ready to support NC-Congress if needed,” Akhtar told Kashmir Bulletin (KB) in an interview today.
Akhtar emphasized that PDP is committed to backing any “secular arrangement” that includes the Congress. “Yes, we are ready to support the alliance, any secular arrangement that includes Congress, as we are part of the INDIA alliance with them,” he stated.
When asked if any discussions are currently underway between PDP, Congress, or NC, Akhtar remained reserved. “No,” he responded, offering no further details on the matter.
The J&K Assembly elections were conducted in three phases, and the results are scheduled to be announced tomorrow. Earlier, Congress had expressed its openness to collaborating with like-minded parties to form a post-poll alliance.
