Jammu, June 8:
As part of the ongoing anti-drug awareness campaign, Jammu Police, in collaboration with renowned cartoonist Shekhar Sharma, organized an “On Wheels Cartoon Exhibition” at Shaheedi Chowk in Jammu on Monday.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Rakesh Minhas, who attended the event as the chief guest. The initiative was conducted under the leadership of Joginder Singh, with active support from senior police officers and local stakeholders.
Held at Shaheedi Chowk on Residency Road, the exhibition featured a series of thought-provoking cartoons created by Shekhar Sharma, highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse. Through his artwork, the cartoonist conveyed strong messages encouraging youth and the wider community to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a healthier, drug-free society.
The programme forms part of the larger anti-drug movement launched by Manoj Sinha to eradicate drug addiction from the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas appreciated the innovative awareness campaign and emphasized that society must collectively help individuals overcome drug addiction and lead dignified lives. He also highlighted the importance of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, which focuses on rehabilitation of addicts and strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers.
Senior police officials said that while indoor awareness programmes are being conducted regularly under the campaign, the outdoor cartoon exhibition provides a unique platform to directly engage with the public and spread awareness through creative expression.
The exhibition received an enthusiastic response from local residents, traders, visitors, and members of various associations. Organizers said such initiatives are crucial in educating the public, particularly the younger generation, and strengthening the collective resolve to make Jammu & Kashmir a drug-free society.
