Jammu, March 15:
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has issued a blistering ultimatum to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s government, demanding an immediate clearance on the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in the Jammu region.
Arun Prabhat, State President of BJYM Jammu Kashmir, cautioned that the administration must “clear its stance or be prepared to face a statewide mass agitation.”
Two Months of Silence: Youth on the Streets
According to the BJYM, the youth of Jammu have been peacefully protesting for over two months, seeking the fulfillment of what they describe as a “veritable and legitimate demand.” Despite submitting numerous representations and memorandums, the current National Conference-led government has reportedly maintained a stony silence.
“The youth of Jammu have been on the roads for sixty days. The government has not uttered a single statement to clear its take on this issue,” Prabhat stated. “The responsibility now lies entirely with the CM.”
Key Demands & Allegations:
-
Immediate Announcement: BJYM demands an official confirmation for the NLU in Jammu without further delay.
-
Failed Promises: The youth wing alleges that the NC government has “absolutely failed” to fulfill the electoral promises made to the youth of the Union Territory.
-
Escalation Warning: If the government continues to ignore the demand, the BJYM has pledged to transition from peaceful protests to a statewide mass movement.

“Face the Consequences”
Arun Prabhat emphasized that the patience of the student community and the youth in Jammu is wearing thin. He highlighted that the establishment of an NLU is not just a regional demand but a necessity for the academic and professional growth of law aspirants in the UT.
“The government can no longer hide behind shuffling files,” Prabhat warned. “Either announce the University now or face the consequences of a mass uprising across the state.”
