Jammu, Feb 3:

In a significant move to engage the youth and steer them toward a healthy lifestyle, the Jammu & Kashmir Police officially inaugurated the T-10 Cosco Ball Cricket Tournament today at the Satowali Ground in R.S. Pura. Organized under the Civic Action Programme (CAP), the event aims to provide a competitive platform for local budding cricketers to showcase their skills.

The Inauguration Ceremony

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Sh. Irshad H. Rather-JKPS, SP Headquarters Jammu. The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including:

  • Sh. Gurmeet Singh-JKPS, SDPO R.S. Pura

  • Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, SHO R.S. Pura

  • Prominent members of civil society, the media fraternity, and a large gathering of local spectators.

Tournament Format

A total of 08 local teams are competing for the title. To ensure maximum engagement and fair play, the organizers have scheduled the tournament on a league-cum-knockout basis. The short, high-energy T-10 format was chosen to draw in crowds and maintain a fast-paced environment for the players.

Police-Public Synergy

During the welcome address, SDPO R.S. Pura and SHO R.S. Pura highlighted that the J&K Police is committed to more than just law enforcement. They emphasized that youth engagement programmes are a priority for the department to build stronger community ties and foster mutual trust between the police and the public.

“One of our primary goals is to explore and tap into the hidden talent of our youth. We want to give them the opportunity to improve their skills while simultaneously keeping them away from drug abuse and other social evils.” — Sh. Irshad H. Rather-JKPS, SP Headquarters Jammu

A Message to the Youth

Interacting with the participants, SP Headquarters Jammu urged the players to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship. He noted that sports are the most effective tool for “channelizing the energy of the youth in a positive direction.” By focusing on athletic excellence, the J&K Police hopes to create a shield against the rising tide of substance abuse in the region.

The tournament is expected to continue over the week, with the final match slated to be a grand event involving local community leaders and sports enthusiasts.
