Jammu, Dec 29:
In a swift and coordinated strike amid heightened New Year security, the Jammu Police (South Zone) and the 13 BN BSF have arrested two individuals for brandishing a firearm in public, causing widespread panic in the Satwari area.
The joint operation, conducted late Sunday evening, led to the recovery of a live pistol, two magazines, and a toy pistol used to intimidate local residents.
The action was triggered by reliable inputs suggesting that two men were roaming freely within the jurisdiction of Police Station Satwari, openly displaying a firearm. Witnesses reported a sense of fear and insecurity among the local population as the duo moved through public areas with the weapon visible.
Responding to the threat, a joint team of the Satwari Police and BSF personnel intercepted and apprehended the suspects before any harm could occur. The two individuals booked in the case have been identified as: Manzoor Hussain, son of Noor Hussain, resident of Badhori, Bari-Brahamana (Samba) and Suraj, son of Om Parkash, resident of Badhori, Bari-Brahamana (Samba).
During the preliminary investigation and search, the security teams recovered: One Pistol (Functional), Two Magazines and One Toy Pistol (Allegedly used to amplify the threat and create public fear)
The police have registered a formal case under FIR No. 249/2025 at Police Station Satwari, invoking Section 3/25 of the Arms Act.
A senior police official stated that unauthorized possession and the public display of firearms pose a grave threat to public order, especially during the festive week.
“We are maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards any act that disturbs the peace. The recovery of both a real weapon and a toy pistol shows a deliberate attempt to cause mischief and fear,” the official added.
This arrest comes at a time when Jammu is under a multi-tier security blanket to ensure safe New Year celebrations. Citizens are advised to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police post immediately.
