In a major push to fortify the “first line of defense” along the International Border (IB), SP South Jammu conducted a high-level security review meeting today with Village Defence Guards (VDGs) at Phallian Mandal.
The review, held under the directions of SSP Jammu, comes amid a period of heightened vigilance across the region following several drone-dropping attempts and concerns over narco-terrorism in sensitive border pockets.
VDGs: The Eyes and Ears of the Border
During the interaction, the SP South emphasized that the local knowledge of VDGs is the most potent weapon against “inimical elements.” The meeting served several strategic purposes:

Operational Readiness: A physical check of weapons issued to VDGs was conducted to ensure serviceability and safe handling.

Area Familiarization: Reviewing the existing security grid to close gaps in surveillance.

Coordination: Streamlining communication between VDGs, the Special Developmental Police Officer (SDPO) South, and In-charge Police Post (ICPP) Phallian Mandal.
“The legacy of the VDGs is built on bravery. Members have earned prestigious honors like the Shaurya Chakra in the past. We expect the same standard of selfless service today,” stated SP South Jammu during the briefing.
