Jammu, January 3:
In a significant move to safeguard public health, the Jammu Police, in collaboration with the Food Safety Department, carried out a swift enforcement drive today near the Police Station Bus Stand area. The operation targeted gross violations of food transportation norms that pose a direct threat to consumer safety.
The Incident: High-Risk Transport Uncovered
During a routine checking drive aimed at monitoring the movement of essential commodities, Jammu Police intercepted a vehicle carrying a large consignment of non-vegetarian food items.
Upon inspection, officials discovered that the vehicle was not equipped with mandatory insulation or refrigeration systems. According to food safety regulations, transporting meat and poultry without proper temperature control is a critical violation, as it leads to rapid bacterial growth and food spoilage, especially during transit.
Joint Action by Police and Food Safety Dept
Recognizing the severity of the health risk, the police immediately summoned the Food Safety Department to the scene.
-
Key Officials Present: The operation was supervised by Dy. Commissioner Food Safety, Shri Madan Magotra, and the Jammu Police team led by SHO Bus Stand, Inderpal Singh.
-
On-Site Inspection: The Food Safety Designated Officer conducted a thorough on-site evaluation of the seized items.
-
Legal Proceedings: Authorities have initiated formal legal action against the violators as per the established procedures under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
“Jammu Police reaffirms its firm commitment to ensuring public health and strict enforcement of food safety regulations. We maintain zero tolerance towards any practices that compromise the safety and well-being of our citizens,” a senior police official stated.
The Food Safety Department emphasized that mandatory insulation is not just a formality but a necessity for public health.
This drive is part of an ongoing effort by the Jammu administration to monitor local markets and transport hubs. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious food handling or transportation practices to the local authorities to help maintain the city’s health standards.
