Girls’ Cricket Tournament

DODA, MAR 24: A Girls’ Cricket Tournament was inaugurated on Sunday at the Government Degree College (GDC) Doda Ground under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative, marking a significant step towards promoting women’s empowerment through sports.

The tournament is being organized under the guidance of District Development Commissioner Harvinder Singh to encourage young girls to participate in sports and showcase their talent.

Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sunil Bhutyal, who attended as the chief guest, inaugurated the event. In his address, he highlighted the importance of sports in fostering confidence, leadership, and teamwork among young girls.

The opening match saw a competitive game between Dhronacharya Academy and GDC Doda, drawing a large audience of students and sports enthusiasts. Several teams are participating in the tournament, reflecting the growing interest of girls in cricket. The event aims to provide a platform for budding female cricketers to hone their skills and gain recognition.

Aligned with the broader objective of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the tournament reinforces the message of education and empowerment through extracurricular activities. The final match is scheduled for March 26, 2025, at the GDC Doda Ground, where the best-performing teams will be felicitated.

Among those present at the event were Chairman DCSA Bharat Bhushan, Dr. Arjun Singh, and Dr. Jaswant Singh, Physical Directors of GDC Kastigarh and GDC Doda, respectively. The tournament is being officially conducted by DYSS Department officials including Vinod Bandral, Anil Singh, Kamashevar Chandail, Bandana Kotwal, and Saba Anjum.
