DAEGU, NOV 22: Dr. Raghav Langer, a senior IAS officer and Director at the Ministry of Jal Shakti, represented India at the International Water Week (KIWW-2024) held in Daegu, South Korea, from November 13 to 16. Themed ‘Building Smart Water Future by Sharing Experience & Technology’, the event brought together representatives from 60 countries to discuss critical water management challenges and explore innovative solutions.

Dr Langer, who is an 2009 batch IAS officer of Uttrakhand Cadre was also served in J&K from 2018 to 2023. He served on prestigious positions of CEO ERA, DC Kathua, DC Pulwama before he was posted as Divisional Commissioner Jammu. Later he also served as Secretary Planning, J&K.

In the International Water Week 2024, Dr. Langer led the Indian delegation, participating in the Water Leaders’ Round Table, which emphasized high-level commitments and actions aligned with the Declarations of the World Water Forum. The conference also included sessions such as the World Water Cities Forum and the World Water Partnership, where officials, industry leaders, and experts collaborated to share best practices and policies for achieving water sustainability under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

An extensive exhibition at the event showcased advanced technologies, products, and services for water management, treatment, and conservation. Global companies presented solutions ranging from wastewater treatment and desalination technologies to AI-powered water monitoring systems, smart water metering, and infrastructure innovations. These displays highlighted the role of technology in addressing water efficiency challenges and promoting sustainability.

On the sidelines of the main event, thematic and bilateral meetings were held between partner countries. These meetings focused on fostering collaborations among government agencies, NGOs, businesses, and research institutions to ensure integrated water management. Discussions also addressed critical issues related to resource efficiency, sustainable practices, and global water challenges.

The event recognized exceptional contributions to water innovation and environmental stewardship through the Global Water Awards and the Youth Water Forum Asia. Individuals and organizations were celebrated for their achievements in advancing water sustainability.

Dr. Langer emphasized India’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships in the water sector and aligning efforts with international goals. He stated that the exchange of knowledge and technology at KIWW-2024 would pave the way for a collaborative and resilient future in water management. The conference concluded with a renewed call for unified action and cooperation to tackle the growing global water crisis.
