Jammu, April 16:
As part of its aggressive “Drug-Free Doda” campaign, the Doda Police successfully uncovered and dismantled illegal poppy cultivation in the Tipri area of Tehsil Thathri on Thursday.
The operation, which marks a significant victory in the district’s fight against narcotics, led to the identification of two suspects and the registration of separate criminal cases.
The Operation: Swift Action in Tipri
The breakthrough was achieved by a police team led by PSI Sahil Verma. While on routine patrol in the Tipri area, the officer received credible intelligence regarding illegal poppy farming being carried out by local individuals in their private agricultural fields.
Acting with precision, the police teams verified the information on-site, confirming that the land was being used to grow poppy plants—the raw material for opium—in direct violation of the law.
Suspects Identified
Police have named the following individuals in connection with the illegal cultivation:
-
Nazir Ahmed, son of Gh. Mohd, resident of Tipri, Tehsil Thathri.
-
Tanveer Ahmed, son of Mohd Sadiq, resident of Tipri, Tehsil Thathri.
Legal Proceedings Under NDPS Act
Following the discovery, the Doda Police acted swiftly to enforce the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Two separate cases have been registered at the Thathri Police Station:
-
FIR No. 28/2026 (U/S 8/18 NDPS Act)
-
FIR No. 29/2026 (U/S 8/18 NDPS Act)
Investigations are currently in progress to determine the scale of the cultivation and potential links to wider drug trafficking networks.
In an official statement, the Doda Police Media Cell reiterated their unwavering stance against the drug menace:
“The department will continue to take stringent action against those involved in unlawful activities. We are committed to eradicating illegal cultivation and drug-related issues within the district to ensure a safer environment for our youth.”
Community Appeal
The authorities are urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement. Anyone with information regarding the cultivation, sale, or trafficking of drugs is encouraged to report it immediately. The police emphasized that community involvement is the backbone of the #DrugFreeDoda mission.
