Jammu, January 12:

A thick blanket of dense fog enveloped Jammu on Monday morning, severely disrupting air and road traffic and throwing normal life out of gear. Low visibility across the region forced major transport delays, with officials urging commuters to exercise extreme caution.

Air Travel Hit: Multiple Flights Delayed

The adverse weather conditions significantly impacted operations at Jammu Airport. According to airport authorities, at least three morning flights were delayed as visibility levels plummeted during the early hours, making it unsafe for scheduled departures and arrivals.

Impacted Routes Included:

  • Jammu–Srinagar

  • Jammu–Delhi

  • Jammu–Indore

Airport officials noted that schedules were adjusted to ensure passenger safety. Travelers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for real-time updates.

Highway and City Traffic at a Standstill

On the ground, the situation was equally challenging. Major arterial routes and city entry points saw a significant drop in vehicular movement.

  • Low Visibility: Traffic officials reported “thin movement” on city roads as motorists were forced to drive at crawling speeds.

  • Safety Measures: Traffic police have been deployed at key junctions to manage the flow and prevent accidents.

  • Commuter Advisory: Authorities have urged motorists to use fog lights and avoid high speeds, particularly on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other outskirts where the fog is densest.

Weather Outlook: More Fog Likely

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that these conditions are driven by high moisture levels and a dip in temperatures.

“Foggy conditions are common during winter mornings in Jammu, but the current density is high. These conditions may continue intermittently over the next few days depending on temperature variations.” — Weather Department Official.
