Srinagar, April 30:
The Cyber Police Kashmir has registered an First Information Report (FIR) against People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti and several others for allegedly circulating content supportive of separatism on social media.
The Allegations
The case centers around a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Iltija Mufti, which features the late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Authorities took notice of the post, citing that the content promoted ideologies linked to the slain leader and could potentially disturb public order.
Legal Action Under New Laws
According to official sources, the FIR (No. 11) has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
-
Section 152: The case specifically invokes Section 152 of the BNS, which addresses acts endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.
Wider Investigation Underway
The FIR does not stop at the PDP leader; it also names several unidentified individuals involved in sharing or amplifying the video online.
“Cyber Police Kashmir is currently investigating the matter to ascertain the intent behind the post and to track the wider dissemination of the video,” a source confirmed.
The police have stepped up monitoring of digital platforms to curb the spread of any content deemed “anti-national” or provocative. No official statement has been released by Iltija Mufti or the PDP regarding the FIR at the time of reporting.
